Open an XPS file on Windows 11

Windows 11 doesn’t include the XPS Viewer out of the box, so double-clicking an .xps file often does nothing useful. You have two easy options.

Drop .xps or .oxps files here

or

Read on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

Option 1: open it here, in your browser

  1. Drag the .xps or .oxps file onto the box above, or press Choose XPS files.
  2. Every page appears straight away. Use the arrows or the page list to move around.
  3. Press Download PDF to keep a copy that opens anywhere.

Nothing is uploaded: the file is read by this page on your own computer, which matters for invoices, payslips and statements.

Option 2: add the XPS Viewer back to Windows

Microsoft still offers the viewer as an optional feature. Open Settings → System → Optional features, choose View features (or Add a feature), search for XPS Viewer and install it. You need administrator rights, and on work computers it’s often blocked.

Opening an XPS file on Windows 10

The same applies: since the April 2018 update, Windows 10 no longer installs the XPS Viewer on new setups. Either use this page or add it under Settings → Apps → Optional features.
